Blue remembrance candle1/5/2024 I'm fighting for gun safety and prevention laws so no other student has to go through what my friends and I did. November 30 now marks a dark day for students, teachers, and parents in the Oxford community. It wasn't a drill that we'd practiced so many times before, but a traumatizing and fear-filled moment that forever changed so many lives, including my own. "Two years ago today, my school went under lock down. Madeline Johnson, Survivor and Co-President of No Future Without Today, made this statement: Let us continue honoring the memories of those we have lost with action to protect our children, our families, and our communities. We need to remember that now more than ever. After the shooting, we held each other close. We have faced a lot of tough times, and the way we got through any of them was by sticking together. Michigan will always keep Oxford in our hearts. Many were wounded and still bear scars-seen and unseen-from that day. These four extraordinary young Michiganders were taken from us too soon. And Hana, a freshman known for her silly sense of humor who loved volleyball and basketball. Tate, a leader on and off the football field, whose work ethic and loyalty to his friends was unmatched. Madisyn, who brightened any room she walked into and was a proud big sister to her brother who has special needs and special gifts. Justin, a kind young man and avid golfer who could make you feel better with his big smile. We honor the memories of four beautiful young souls. Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued the following statement: Today, Michiganders come together to remember, grieve, and stand with the people of Oxford. Michiganders are urged to light a candle or luminary in remembrance this evening at 7:00PM. A blue candle flame is one of the most popular types of flame, but there is still a lot of misconception about it. The shooter also injured six other students and a teacher. Juliana, Tate Myre and Justin Shilling, are being remembered today. Those students, Madisyn Baldwin, Hana St. The moment of silence will be held at 12:51PM to honor the lives lost in the shooting. The Oxford Community Schools district is holding a moment of silence on Thursday, November 30, in remembrance of the Oxford shooting that took place two years ago.
